Family Devotional

Yesterday morning on 7.7.7 we had a simple family devotional at Grandma Bowler's. Grandpa opened it and Cory gave the opening prayer. Randi gave a spiritual thought, about the time she felt inspired to pick a certain hymn for seminary (it was the day after the Virginia Tech tragedy, and that hymn brought comfort to the whole class for the day), I talked a little bit about the significance of '7's (and even invited Chad and Caidie to go ahead and get married then and have their reception later). We all shared favorite scriptures that have 7's in them or combinations that add up to 7 (like Mosiah 2:41, 2+4+1=7). There was a sweet, but crowded spirit there. I told the group of our weekly family challenge and challenged them to read the scriptures in 7s style.* We closed by singing "God Be With You Til We Meet Again" and Randi gave the closing prayer.
Than the fun began. Apparently we have never sung the "12 days of Christmas" with the Utah Bowlers before. We sang that and ended with just Garrett and I, and a few others, doing, of course, the shark dance (with much less enthusiastic dancers, I tried but It wasn't the same without the original dancers). So it was another occasion when all of you were really missed, really missed. Oh, we have another tear-jerker movie, the one Celeste made for my birthday. She will make copies for everyone when it's all on one dvd.

*read for 7 seconds or 7 minutes, read 7 verses or verse 7s, read for 7 days straight and than another 7 days, you get the idea. Biblically, 7 means perfection, completion.

3 friends had something to say:

Mom thanks for blogging. I like your challenge. By the way what song did Randi pick?

Neither of us could remember. It was one the class knew, but we didn't sing that often.
